Ryan Malott
Ryan was born in Port Huron, MI, but has spent the majority of his life in West Michigan in the suburbs of Grand Rapids. A lifelong dream to work in radio led him into the podcasting world around 2010. His passion for conversation and music led him to meet up with Jeff Wood to create Mitten Music.
Ryan enjoys everything from TOOL and Deftones to Phil Collins and Prince but is always steadfast and loyal to anything Michigan music related.
Live shows, live conversations, anything right in the moment is where Ryan lives. His day job even allows him to connect with more people and have more conversations than he ever thought imaginable!
Jeff Wood
Jeff was raised in Oxford, MI, but has spent half of his life in West Michigan. His love of music began in childhood, fueled by his mother’s constant rotation of classic rock at home.
His early music collection was diverse— including Michael Jackson and Guns N' Roses. He eventually gravitated toward harder rock, such as Metallica, before fully embracing the grunge wave with bands like Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains.
Growing up a short distance from Pine Knob and The Palace gave him early and easy access to countless concerts. More recently, podcasting has reignited his passion for live music, leading him to explore West Michigan’s local clubs and discover the amazing talent across the state.
Jeff’s journey into podcasting began with Stories from the Woods, a show with original children’s stories. This project sparked a deeper interest in audio storytelling. Around the same time, he became an avid listener of John Sinkevics' Local Spins show on WYCE, which inspired him to launch a podcast focused on Michigan’s vibrant music scene. Since then, his appreciation for local music has only grown, as he continues to explore the rich diversity of artists and sounds emerging from the state.
